400 kilometers of nature experience
Hiking in the Valley of Alpine Meadows
The Großarl Valley bears its name “Valley of Alpine Meadows” for a reason: around 40 managed huts invite you to enjoy regional delicacies and a cozy break during the alpine summer. The paths range from easy alpine hikes and family-friendly themed trails to mountain lake, summit, and high-altitude tours. Along the way, you are accompanied by waterfalls, cool forests, extensive alpine meadows, and impressive views of the Hohe Tauern mountains. For ambitious hikers, tours to the Gamskarkogel and into the Hohe Tauern National Park are also among the region’s special experiences.
Certified quality on the mountain
Award-winning hiking region in the Salzburger Land
Großarl and Hüttschlag belong to Austria’s hiking villages and have been awarded the Austrian Hiking Seal of Quality. The seal of quality stands for a high-quality range of hiking options, clear signage, and well-prepared information about tours and paths. In the digital tour portal, you can select hikes by length, difficulty, and altitude before your holiday. This way, you will find exactly the path that suits you, from a relaxed walk to a demanding summit tour.

Leisurely through the valley
Walking paths, themed trails & family hikes
Not every hike has to lead to the next summit. The Chapel Hiking Trail runs for around 17 kilometers from Großarl via Hüttschlag to the end of the valley and can also be discovered in individual stages. Numerous sections run on easy-to-walk paths and are therefore also suitable for families and leisurely holiday days. The offer is complemented by further themed trails, easy alpine hikes, and tours where the path itself becomes an experience.
On two wheels into the mountain experience

First cycle, then hike further
Bike & Hike in the Valley of Alpine Meadows
With Bike & Hike, you combine two of the most beautiful ways to discover the Großarl mountains. With a mountain bike or e-bike, you first head up marked routes to an alpine hut. There you park your bike and continue hiking to mountain lakes, scenic peaks, or quiet spots above the tree line. This allows you to shorten longer approaches and still get high up – sportily or with pleasant support from the e-bike.
Flow, curves & mountain panorama
Großarltal Single Trail
Those looking for more action on a mountain bike will find around ten kilometers of pure trail pleasure on the Großarltal Single Trail. The Panorama Railway takes you comfortably up to the starting point before the route leads through forests and across mountain meadows back into the valley. The trail consists of the approximately seven-kilometer-long Panorama Rausch and the approximately 3.3-kilometer-long Waldgeflüster. Different passages, natural obstacles, and flowy curves make the descent a special experience for experienced mountain bikers.
